Description

A delicious and creamy chocolate hummus made with chickpeas and dates.


Ingredients

  • 1 can (15 ounces) chickpeas (drained and rinsed)
  • 10 Medjool dates (pitted)
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water (hot)

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 cup of water until hot, either in the microwave or on the stovetop. Pour it into a bowl over the pitted dates, then cover and let them soak for about 30 minutes.
  2. Add the soaked dates along with the soaking water, chickpeas, cocoa powder, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt to a food processor. Process for 2 to 3 minutes, scraping down the sides once or twice, until smooth and creamy.
  3. Taste the hummus, and if you’d like it a bit sweeter, add a touch of maple syrup and blend again until fully combined.

Notes

  • Feel free to adjust sweetness by adding more maple syrup.
  • This hummus can be served with fruits, crackers, or as a dip for a healthy snack.
