Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (high quality for best taste)
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup granulated sugar (can use brown sugar for deeper flavor)
- 1/2 cup butter (unsalted, softened to room temperature)
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract (use pure extract for best flavor)
- 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark, optional mint-flavored)
- 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candies (sprinkle on top before baking)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cream together the softened butter, sugar, and brown sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Mix in the peppermint extract and cocoa powder until fully combined.
- Fold in the flour, baking soda, and salt until just combined.
- Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them about two inches apart.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until edges are firm but centers remain soft.
- Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- Optional: Drizzle with melted dark chocolate for an extra indulgent touch.
Notes
- For a deeper flavor, consider using brown sugar instead of granulated sugar.
- Make sure to use high-quality cocoa powder for the best taste.
