Description
Delicious homemade pretzel bites that are chewy on the outside and soft on the inside.
Ingredients

- 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F to 115°F)
- 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ⅓ cup baking soda
- 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In another bowl, mix the flour and salt together.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the yeast mixture, mixing until a rough dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a bowl coated with olive oil, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). In a large pot, bring about 10 cups of water to a boil and carefully stir in the baking soda.
- After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into small pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 1 inch thick, then cut it into bite-sized pieces.
- Carefully drop a few pretzel bites into the boiling baking soda bath for about 30 seconds, then remove them with a slotted spoon and place them on a lined baking sheet.
- Brush each pretzel bite with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and allow the pretzel bites to cool slightly before enjoying.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, add a tablespoon of melted butter to the dough.
- These pretzel bites are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a few days.
